How it works

Bypass complex financial software

aihtax is the straight path for cash-accounting sole traders and landlords who are not VAT registered: capture receipts, download transactions, match them, read your monthly and annual ledger, and submit Making Tax Digital returns.

The five steps

  1. 01

    Capture receipts

Photograph or upload receipts and invoices. OCR pulls vendor, date, and amount so you skip retyping.

  2. 02

    Import bank transactions

Download transactions from your bank CSV or connect Open Banking feeds — no full accounting suite required.

  3. 03

    Match evidence

Link receipts to bank lines so every expense has a digital trail HMRC can follow.

  4. 04

    See your ledger

Review monthly and annual books in plain language — income, expenses, and running totals.

  5. 05

    File MTD returns

Submit quarterly updates and your annual declaration yourself, or hand the year-end to your accountant.

Quarterly updates

Keep digital records through the year. When an obligation is due, submit your quarterly update from the same matched ledger — no re-keying into HMRC forms.

Annual declaration — your choice

If the year is simple, submit your Final Declaration yourself. If it is more complex, invite your accountant to review and file using the same evidence trail.
